Teen Christmas

Labor Day

Dear Patrons,

Your Library has many excellent programs that are provided to the community free of charge. Programs such as the Summer Reading Program, public use computers, and Technology Preparation Classes are now in danger of losing disquisitional funding. All libraries throughout Missouri are fighting for their funding from the State. Governor Jay Nixon has decided to cutting country library funding from $xi,538,251 to $v,648,776. This includes all Barton County Library branches (Lamar, Golden City, and Liberal). Afterwards many messages expressing business organization take crossed the Governor'south desk-bound, he released $723,000 to libraries with populations fewer than 40,000. He has essentially thrown a few crumbs to pocket-size libraries to appease some of united states of america.

Barton County Library receives about $28,000 yearly from the state. Usually, about $fourteen,000 comes from Land Grants. The ii we heavily rely on are the Summer Reading Programme and Technology Grants. All the activities over 300 children accept each twelvemonth with the SRP are in danger. Miss Carol brings in people to practice magic tricks, unusual (to this area) animals, a planetarium, professional storytellers and many others. She too awards prizes to our young readers. All of these programs cost money (around $500 each). If we don't produce the aforementioned amount of pizzazz we have in the by, I wanted you to know why. Nosotros are nonetheless very willing to practise so, but may not be able to.

The Engineering Grants give anyone who has a library card Free access to the latest engineering science for resume building, job hunting, filling out task applications, homework enquiry, completing taxes, signing upwardly for Social Security, running small businesses, or keeping in touch with friends and family. Governor Nixon cut funding for libraries to connect to the internet. Barton County Library responded by connecting to Fiber. Cheers to President Clinton'due south Due east-Charge per unit program we volition receive an 80% disbelieve in Fiscal Year 2015/2016. Until July of this twelvemonth, we are using our own funds to supply you with the fast internet everyone wants. It has been worth every penny to proceed to provide this service to your, our patrons, fifty-fifty if it has hurt our upkeep in the process.

We try our best to continue our circulation up-to-date and current. The balance of the $28,000, which we get through State Aid, Equalization funds, and A&E (athletes and entertainers tax), is spent on MoLib2Go (our Overdrive e-Reader service), audio books, hardback books, movies for our Senior citizens, DVDs for check out, developed reading plan prizes, and any other ideas our patrons present to united states of america.

You may be thinking to yourself that you pay enough of taxes to support the library. I am Not request for more of your money! Most of our people in this county pay their taxes, but businesses accept closed, buildings are not being kept up and tax acquirement for the library is less each twelvemonth. Property Revenue enhancement income is most of what fuels our libraries. Thank you!

In writing this, my purpose is to inform you lot of this critical result that is affecting your local Libraries. The Land is pulling much needed funds! I realize times are difficult since EVERYTHING costs and so much more than but we are still trying to provide a service to the customs, in giving our patrons what they inquire for.  Our employees have seen a reduction in hours, open up hours have been reduced, and I fearfulness more is to come. I project we will be fine if we change spending for the adjacent three years or and so, but later on that, the future of our service, as it is now, may be uncertain. The State, our Governor, needs to go on to fund all the libraries, or take chances the danger of these of import customs programs disappearing. At that place is notwithstanding time for Governor Nixon to alter his listen. We'll see what happens.

Permit's end this message on an upbeat note. I am asking hobbyist to share their interest. Our coming together room will hold a small grouping. Nosotros need to offer classes in gardening, art, music, dancing, nutrition, or annihilation else creative minds can think of to become people interested in learning life skills after graduation.   We are bored and are yearning for a new direction! Please volunteer your time sharing what you know!

Thank you for existence a patron of Barton Canton Library! If you lot are not a patron of Barton Canton Library, then why non become 1? Join us in making Barton County a better community!

Sincerely,

Julie Potter, Director
